Review: After Death – Retronomicon [2008]

The 14-track Retronomicon can best be described as a scattershot composite of death metal band After Death. Led by early Morbid Angel member Mike Browning, After Death’s metallic style varies across this disc due to the material being taken from different eras with different band lineups, most notably with a Deep Purple-esque organ found on the REVIVING THE GODS portion of this compilation and a old school Slayer meets Grim Reaper vibe permeating through the CONSUMED era. Nonetheless, this release is presented with detailed liner notes and is perfect for those who want a streamlined account of the trials and tribulations of this occult act. -Mike SOS
