Here are the tracks slated for Guitar Hero Metallica, hitting the streets on March 29, 2009 for XBox360 and PS3 (Nintendo Wii and PS2 release date is May 31 according to amazon.com).

The game will feature an option for double bass drum action on expert+ mode. Note that the original Bob Seger, Diamond Head, Queen, and Lynyrd Skynyrd versions are incorporated into the game rather than Metallica’s covers. It is also great to see Slayer’s “War Ensemble” and C.O.C.’s “Albatross” on the list.

While the above are all excellent ideas, it is important to note that leaving Jason Newstead and Cliff Burton out of the game is a very poor idea. Maybe next time.

Update: Guitar Hero Metallica – Slayer Is In!

Posted in Guitar Hero with tags , , on January 1, 2009 by gearsofrock

According to drummer Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Slayer will be part of the upcoming Guitar Hero Metallica video game.

“I’m super psyched we got Slayer in there,” Ulrich said. “Slayer’s got to be part of any heavy metal video game. There had been some issues with their lyrics. That gets into a whole slew of stuff like, ‘Microsoft won’t do it if this lyrical content is in there.’ There’s all this bullshit you have to deal with, but we stood up for Slayer, and we finally got Slayer cleared like a week ago.” [g4tv.com]

amazon-metallica-death-magnetic1Metallica has officially announced and confirmed a 2009 release of an “all Metallica” Guitar Hero game which will include the full band in the style of Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band. GH Metallica is expected to have 28 songs and will include some Alice in Chains, Machine Head, and Slayer tracks. Additionally, there is some sort of super expert mode with DOUBLE BASS PEDALS on the drums! [metallica.com]

Guitar Hero World Tour

Addendum: Metallica released the official trailer for the game and it looks sick. Can’t wait to play it and review it. The game would be even sicker if they thought to incorporate Cliff and Jason as special characters to unlock.

Four Years Without Dimebag Darrell…It Just Sucks

Posted in Pantera with tags , , , , on December 8, 2008 by gearsofrock

Don’t forget to take a moment to honor and remember the legendary Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, as today marks the four year anniversary of his cowardly murder—play it loud and proud.

“Once you’re into it, you’re into it for a lifetime. And maybe it’s not the coolest thing when it comes to what’s on top of the charts, but that sh– that’s been on top of the charts — on and off, on and off, a million times — and we’re still standing strong. So we’ll be here forever. United and hard we f—ing stand.” -Dimebag [cmt.com]
