This day in 1990, Poison’s “Unskinny Bop” [Flesh & Blood] hit #3 on the charts [Source:]. Ah, the good old days.

The Rocker Soundtrack Features Poison Cover

Teddy Geiger contributed 9 songs to The Rocker Original Soundtrack including a cover of Poison’s “Nothin’ But A Good Time.” If you are not familiar with Teddy Geiger, and probably shouldn’t be if you are a rock and roll loyalist, he makes acoustic-driven pop. If you like James Blunt then you should love this guy.

Anyways, the Poison cover is a fun listen that reminds me of Sheryl Crow’s version of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” from the Big Daddy Original Soundtrack; much softer than the original but still enjoyable if listened to in moderation.

Poison live at Jones Beach 7/30

My 100th rock show consisted of a solid performance by Poison. LiveNation actually did something cool and sold tickets for $10.30 with service charges the day before the show, since nobody originally bought tickets. Even with this deal, the stadium was far from packed.

Of what I can remember, the highlights were “Ride The Wind,” “Fallen Angel,” and “I Won’t Forget You.” I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t play “Cry Tough.”

Overall, it was your typical Poison show: predictable but a good time.

The opening bands were Dokken and Sebastian Bach. I love them both, but once again I spent too much time in the parking lot, hanging out with some cool people, thus missing the opening acts.

The next shows I am going to see are both on Wednesday and both part of the LiveNation $10.30 ticket promotion. I am going to the Mayhem Festival at Nassau Coliseum which begins at 2:00 to see Black Tide, DragonForce, Machine Head, and Disturbed, then I am driving to Jones Beach at 8:30 to see Stone Temple Pilots. I am giving Scott Weiland one last chance after the horror show he put on in May at PNC Bank.

Celebrating Rock Concert #100 Tomorrow!

I just realized that I am meeting a personal milestone tomorrow evening with my 100th rock concert. The rock band is Poison and the venue is Jones Beach on Long Island.

This is the 100th real rock show for me according to the best of my knowledge. My list does not include local rock bands or shows that I have played through the years.

I figure since this is show #100, that I would do a series of posts over the next few weeks that reflect on some of the highlights that I have experienced since 1986.
